Anthony Leslie Merrill, affectionately known as”OG” and “Sweetcake,” passed away peacefully on February 14, 2025, at Decatur-Morgan Hospital in Decatur, Alabama. He was 68 years old.

Born on February 22, 1956, Anthony proudly served in the U.S. Army, where he earned the Sharpshooter Award. Beyond his military service, he had a deep appreciation for nature, fashion, and cooking. He also enjoyed reading his Bible, watching wrestling, shopping, making jokes, and forming lifelong friendships.

Anthony was preceded in death by his parents, Wiley and Eunice Merrill. He is survived by his daughters, Antoinette Hall of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Brittany Gross of Evergreen, Alabama; his siblings, Vivian Crosby of Montgomery, Alabama, Debra Howard of Evergreen, Alabama, and Quentin Merrill (Stephanie) of Manassas, Virginia; his grandchildren, Asia Hall, Jaylon Cleveland, Angelo Lewis Jr., and Kashton May of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; and his great-granddaughter, Jaylani Cleveland of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He will also be remembered by many other relatives and friends.

A special thanks is extended to his Captain D’s crew for their love and support.

Anthony was immensely loved and will be greatly missed. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
