Harold Ray Black

January 15, 1941 – April 9, 2020

Harold Ray Black of Auburn, Alabama, passed away in the comfort of his home at Monarch Estates on April 9, 2020 at the age of 79. He was born on January 15, 1941 in Gaffney, South Carolina to the late A.L. and Francis Black.

Ray grew up in Montgomery, Alabama. He enlisted in the United States Navy at 19 years old. After serving for nearly two years, he became the first in his family to attend and graduate from college, earning a degree in Textile Engineering from Auburn University. Ray was a talented artist and calligrapher. His work can be seen on permanent display at the Auburn University Ralph Brown Draughon Library – Special Collections and Archives, and also in various locations throughout the Auburn-Opelika area.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kellie Deanne Fuller. He is survived by his daughter, Ivy Black Harris, son-in-law Mike Harris, and grandchildren Kasey, Katelin, and Mallory Harris.

Special thanks to Miss Lettie and Kindred Hospice for providing loving care. A memorial service will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Kindred Hospice.
