On the morning of 05/05/2021, Muriel Nella Sillis Black passed away in her home after a short illness. Muriel was born December 17, 1938 in London, England to Robert and Dorothy Sillis and older sister Barbara. She met the love of her life, Larry Black, in England while he was serving in the US Army. Shortly after meeting, Muriel came to the United States to be his wife. They raised three sons on their beloved Gentle Breeze Farm in Opelika. Once a teacher’s aide for the Opelika City Schools, Mrs. Black’s lifelong profession was serving her community as a hairdresser. She owned and operated a salon in downtown Auburn for several years. Known as “Granna” by her family, Mrs. Black was adored by her family and friends and was proud to have lived the true American dream.
She is proceeded in death by her husband Larry N. Black, her sister Barbara Sheldrick (Roy), and her grandson Kent N. Black. She is survived by the following family – Three sons: Robert Black (Dina), Reid Black, and Rusty Black (Gwen). Five grandchildren: Ashley Beasley, Alex Black (Savannah), Will Black (Tatum), Madison Bak (Nick), and Tristan Black. Four great- grandchildren: Payton Beasley, Parker Beasley, Exton Black, and Gibson Black. Niece: Karen Bennett of Basingstoke, England.
The family will have a private celebration of life to honor the life well lived of Mrs. Black. The family also wishes to thank Compassus Hospice as well as two special caregivers: Patsy Cotton and Dana Roberts.
