Barbara Thacker John

Barbara Thacker John died on October 12, 2026, in EAMC in Opelika, Alabama.

Barbara graduated from Auburn University in 1970. She retired after 25 years with the Opelika post office. Her life was marked by steady dedication in her work and by the thoughtful, reflective spirit that shaped the way she moved through the world.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Milton and Margaret Cross Thacker.

She is survived by her husband, Paul John of 43 years. She is also survived by her daughter, Heather Cowen Riley, and son-in-law, Steven Scott Riley, Jr.; her grandchildren, Parker Grace "Gray" and Robert Ford Riley; her brother, Mac Thacker and his wife, Marge; sisters, Missi Dollar and Ann Sharpe; and several nieces and nephews.

Barbara was a spiritual person with an old soul. She had a kind heart, a brilliant mind, and a quick wit. She found lasting enjoyment in books, and she also loved nature and music. Those who knew her will remember the intelligence, warmth, and love she brought to everyday life.
