David “Ronald Bug” Murphy

David “Ronald Bug” Murphy, 75, of Opelika, Alabama, died on September 4, 2026, at his residence surrounded by family.

Born on March 5, 1951, in Valley, Alabama, David “Ronald Bug” Murphy built a life defined by work, family, and the connections he made with others.

He spent 25 years working in construction before moving into commercial sales, where he became widely known for his ability as a salesman. Whether on a job site or in sales, he brought a distinct presence to his work and was remembered by many he met along the way.

He enjoyed a variety of interests throughout his life. He loved Auburn, especially Auburn football, and also enjoyed golf, cooking, and trying new foods. Travel was another important part of his life, as were the times spent with family and friends during meals, trips, games, and conversation.

A meaningful recent moment in his life was his baptism on his birthday, an occasion of special significance to him.

Ronald shared 48 years of marriage with his wife, Robin Murphy. He is also remembered by his daughter, Melissa Murphy Crane and her husband, Larry; his son, Shane Richardson and his wife, Christy; his nephew, Barry Green and his wife, Angela; and his niece, Mistee Murphy Streat. He also leaves many grandchildren: Tsali Hull and spouse Dylan, Sadie Stevens and spouse Ricky, Coryn Morris and spouse Taylor, Kelly Richardson and spouse Kassandra, Cheyenne Richardson, Emma Crane, and Anthony Richardson. His memory also remains with many great-grandchildren and many great-nieces and great-nephews, including three on the way.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hessie K Murphy; his mother, Hazel Kitchens Murphy; his brother, Phil Murphy; his father-in-law, Giles Thompson; his mother-in-law, Audrey Thompson; and his sister-in-law, Tracy Thompson.

Visitation will be held on September 10, 2026, at Lanett Congressional Christian Church, 900 South 7th Avenue beginning at 12 pm ET.

A Celebration of Life will follow at 1 pm ET on September 10, 2026, at Lanett Congregational Christian Church, 900 South 7th Avenue.
