Janis Marie Richardson Wachs died on July 5th, 2026. She was born on March 23, 1939 in Montgomery, Alabama to parents Charles Logan Richardson and Glynnis LaMerle Anthony Richardson.
Janis loved Jesus and was a servant of His church, actively involved at Oak Park Presbyterian, Faith Presbyterian, and Young Meadows Presbyterian, in Montgomery, Alabama. She loved her husband and family well. She loved hospitality and cooking, organizing many church fellowship dinners, making meals for people in the church, and hosting people in her home. She loved kids and enjoyed teaching children’s Sunday School, and she sang in the choir. She was a dedicated member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O).
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack Crosby Wachs, brother Charles Logan “Buddy” Richardson Jr, brother Robert Anthony “Bobby” Richardson, and sister Deborah Jo “Debbie” Richardson.
She is survived by her brother Gerald Lynn Richardson of Knoxville, Tennessee; her 3 children: Charles David (Charlene) Wachs of Auburn, Alabama; Terri Wachs (Jeff) Goodner of Opelika, Alabama; and Daniel Crosby Wachs of Birmingham, Alabama.
She is survived by her 5 grandchildren: Ashley Wachs (Ted) Bryant of Auburn, Alabama; Christopher Glen (Carrie) Goodner of Littleton, Colorado; Garrison Crosby (Jenna) Goodner of Happy Valley, Oregon; Allison Wachs (Dr. John) Scott of Florence, Alabama; Dr. Taylor David (Dr. Erika) Wachs of Auburn, Alabama.
She is survived by her 10 great grandchildren: Ansleigh Marie Bryant, Avery Leigh Scott, Reid William Goodner, Abigail Jean Bryant, Cade Robert Goodner, Crosby Annette Goodner, John David Scott, Rhodes Garrison Goodner, Elizabeth Marie Wachs, and Jack Charles Wachs.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, July 22nd at 12:00 in the Chapel at First Baptist Church, 301 S 8th St, Opelika, Alabama 36801.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.). Donations may be directed to the P.E.O.
