Loretta Eady Smith

September 11, 1969 – July 17, 2026

There are no words that can fully capture who our mom, wife, Mimi, sister, and friend was, because she was truly one of a kind. If we had to describe her in a few words, they would be selfless, loving, compassionate, and strong. She spent her life putting others before herself, never seeking recognition and never expecting anything in return. Loving her family was not just something she did—it was who she was.

To us, she was not only the greatest mom. She was the greatest person we have ever known.

Our mom had a smile that could light up any room and a laugh that made everyone want to join in. She had a way of making people feel welcome, valued, and loved. Whether you had known her for years or had just met her, she made you feel like family. Her kindness left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

She loved with her whole heart. She celebrated every milestone, carried every burden with us, prayed through every storm, and stood beside us through every joy and every heartbreak. She taught us that the greatest gift you can give someone is your time, your compassion, and your unconditional love. Those were gifts she gave freely every day.

Loretta was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Dewey Lane Eady and Annie Mae Eady, whom she loved dearly.

She leaves behind the love of her life, her husband of 38 years, Darrell Glenn Smith. Together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and unconditional love. Their marriage was a beautiful example of commitment, friendship, and devotion.

She also leaves behind her children, Chase (Lindsey) Smith and Kayla Smith, the two greatest blessings of her life. Being our mom was the role she treasured most, and we will always be grateful for her sacrifices, her guidance, her hugs, and her prayers.

Her favorite title, however, was “Mimi.” Nothing brought her more joy than her five precious grandchildren: Hunter McCreary, Amelia Mae McCreary, Ashlynn Beth McCreary, Anne-Katherine Smith, and Colson Smith. She adored each of them beyond measure. Her face lit up whenever they were near, and they will forever carry the love, warmth, and wisdom she poured into their lives.

She is also lovingly remembered by her brothers, Wilson Eady and Rocky (Debra) Eady; her sisters, Mary Lois (Danny) Harrell and Bonnie McGhee; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, lifelong friends, and her Sister Schubert work family.

Though our hearts are broken beyond words, we choose to celebrate a life beautifully lived. We will remember her laughter, her gentle spirit, her unwavering faith, and the endless love she gave so freely.

Mom, you were our safe place, our biggest supporter, our greatest teacher, and our best friend. Thank you for every sacrifice you made so we could have a better life. Thank you for showing us what unconditional love looks like. Thank you for teaching us that family is life’s greatest treasure.

Though we can no longer hold your hand, we will carry your love in our hearts for the rest of our lives. Your legacy lives not in what you left behind, but in the people you shaped, the lives you touched, and the love that will continue through generations because of you.

Until we meet again, we will miss you every day, love you forever, and thank God for the blessing of calling you our wife, our mom, our Mimi, and our hero.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 11 am CT at Brushey Creek Baptist Church, located at, 211 Brusy Creek Rd Greenville, AL 36037.
