Samuel Joseph “Joey” Hammock passed away on November 4, 2025, at St. Vincent’s in Birmingham, Alabama. He was born on September 29, 1962, in Zion, Illinois.
Joey’s life was marked by both challenges and love. Though he faced hardships, he cared deeply in his own way and showed a quiet strength that left a lasting impression on those who knew him. His heart, generous and sincere, touched many along the way.
He is lovingly remembered by his children: Jennifer Hammock, Joe Hammock, Ashley Hammock, Erica McCarley and Clint McCarley. Grandchildren: Braydon, Bryson, Brady and Bow. He will also be missed by his siblings: David Hammock, Tula Kay Hammock, Melinda Shaffer and Timothy Hammock. Joey’s father, Joe Hammock and step-father Walton Nichols survives him as well, along with his aunts Elizabeth Bottoms and Elva Jones. Also a host of loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Charlotte Hammock; and his grandmothers, Mary Menees and Lula Mae Nichols.
