Obituary

Virlon Terry Rhodes

September 17, 1963 – May 18, 2026

He was born on September 17, 1963, to Paul Ronnie Rhodes, Sr. and Martha Patterson Rhodes.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his older sister, Kathy Sue Rhodes, and his older brother and best friend, Paul Ronnie Rhodes, Jr.

He is survived by a daughter, Jessica (Johnathon) McCurdy of Alabama; his siblings, Ricky (Joyce) Patterson of Hayesville, Donna (Randy) Canup of Hayesville, David (Tracey) Rhodes of Texas, Kim (Bill) Berrong of Hiawassee, GA, and Ann (Larry) Ferguson of Hayesville; and several nieces and nephews.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing the guitar, and singing. He was a master hardwood floor installer. He loved the mountains he called home, especially Shooting Creek where he grew up before moving to and working in the Atlanta area for many years.

He was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be missed. We take great comfort in knowing he is with Jesus.

A graveside service will be held at a later date.

"Don't Cry"

Don't stand by my grave and weep. I am not here, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow,

I am the diamonds gilt on snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain.

I am the gentle autumn's rain.

When you awake in the morning's hush,

I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight.

I am the soft stars that shine in the night.

Don't stand at my grave and cry, I am not here, I did not die.

I am gone to be with Jesus in the sky,

Who will wipe every tear from our eyes.
