Mr. Vernon “Doc” Dunn, 89, of Arcadia, Florida passed away at his shop in Dadeville, Alabama on August 11, 2020. A Graveside service will follow in Tallapoosa County Memory Centers at noon with Pastor Daren Davis officiating.

He is survived by his wife, Elsieleen, of 70 years; sons, Dennis (Debbie) and Dwight (Sharon) Dunn; daughters, Judith Sanchez, Diane Platt (Luther), and Nancy Smith (Gregg); 12 grandchildren, Erik Sanchez, Derik Sanchez, Shannon Pearce, Dennis “Bub” Dunn, Kasandra “Sandy” Wilbanks, Michelle “Shelly” Bowins, Kimberly Johnson, Wayne Barrett, Summer Sullivan, Dustin Barrett, Brandy Lamb, Corey Dunn, Candice Thaggard, and Virgil Lee Gilson; 33 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: sister, Floyce Dunlap; brother, Jerry Dunn (Patti); and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members.

Doc was a loving husband, provider, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a gentle giant who lived to fix things. His passion was to take vehicles, tractors, and other heavy equipment that were broken and make them work again. He loved to “renew their worth”. There was nothing he could not fix. He was a very generous man; yet, he believed everyone should pull their own weight. He believed you should know to “do the right thing”. He led by example and believed you should work 7 days a week. He would teach you how to fix things instead of doing it for you. He would guide individuals through the work, and he taught many boys and girls how to repair their own cars. Over the years, many of Doc’s children, grandchildren, and their friends enjoyed playing in and around the junkyard. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
