Marcy Marie (Thrift) Settle
March 4, 1970 – July 7, 2023

Marcy Marie (Thrift) Settle passed away at her residence in Gulf Shores, Alabama on July 7, 2023. She was 53 years old.
Marcy was born in Birmingham, Alabama on March 4, 1970 to Bennie Thrift, Jr and Helen Thrift. She is preceded in death by her father, Bennie Thrift, Jr. She is survived by her son, Christopher Settle (Jessica) and their daughter, Penelope; son, Jacob Settle (Bryanah) and their daughter, Brynlee; mother, Helen Thrift; brothers, Tony Thrift (Kimberley) and Jason Thrift (April); and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and other loving family members.
Marcy was the middle child, sandwiched between two brothers that both loved and tormented her at the same time. Tony, her older brother, was a protector to Marcy, which was seldom necessary because she rarely needed it. Make no mistake, Marcy was a way fiercer protector of her baby brother, Jason, than Tony ever was, or needed to be. If someone picked on Jason, look out because Marcy would deal with them both swiftly and harshly.
Marcy truly loved her sons beyond words and was so proud of the men they became. She could not brag on their accomplishments enough, and she especially adored finally becoming a grandmother.
Marcy had two lifelong best friends that were like her sisters. The first of these friends, Gina Moore Fountain, was her childhood neighbor. They remained friends, despite the distance, when Gina became an adult, living all the way in Seattle, Washington. Fortunately, they still managed to squeeze-in an occasional visit. The second beloved friend was Michelle Taylor DeGeorge. Along with her two best friends, Marcy was particularly close to one of her cousins, Angela Hardin Wallace. These two got each other through some trying times in life, and Angela even credited Marcy for saving her life.
Marcy was so small. One would assume she ate like a bird, but she could eat her family under the table. She would always look forward to family visits to the condo because she knew it likely meant a trip to one of the family’s favorite restaurants, Longhorn Steakhouse. She always ordered a combination herb crusted chicken and sirloin steak.
Marcy loved living here in Gulf Shores. She loved watching beautiful sunsets from the patio. She loved her job and watching lots of crazy reality TV shows like Mama June, Chrisley Knows Best, and Growing Up Chrisley, as well as, watching Hallmark movies. Let’s not forget that she absolutely loved her Alabama Football!
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jackie Reeves, Marcy’s aunt, who has been here helping the family through this tough time.
The family would also like to extend an open invitation to Marcy’s Celebration of Life on Saturday, July 15th at 1:00 p.m. CT at the Clubhouse of Colony Club at Drakes Landing located at 6194 State Highway 59 Gulf Shores, AL 36542. Marcy’s boss and dear friend, Mr. Ray Collins, whom she always referred to as, “Mr. Ray,” will be officiating the Celebration of Life. All are welcome to come celebrate, honor, and remember Marcy.

Below you can read kind words and remembrances shared about Marcy:

Gina Moore Fountain:
I will always love you Marcy Thrift Settle. Thank you for being my first friend & the little sister I never had. Thank you for always having my back & loving me unconditionally for over 50 years. I know I will see you again. Rest in peace.

Michelle Taylor DeGeorge:
This week I lost my best friend, my sister. Marcy and I met in 1982 when she wanted to fight me at the skating rink We had many more wonderful memories through our life together. Many fun nights on the weekend in her cavalier with the dang leaking sunroof. We didn’t care, we were living a carefree life. I spent yesterday thinking back on our memories and playing all the awesome music, we used to listen to while cruising Center Point. We would pick each other up and dust off and keep going. Marcy was such a caring and kind hearted, fun person to be around. I have lost a few in my life, but this one is different. We helped each other through all of life’s difficulties, we celebrated life’s blessings. I will hold onto our wonderful memories to get me through this time. You can rest now my friend, I will take it from here, I love you and will always miss you! Please keep Marcy family and friends in your prayers.

Kimberley LeighAnn Thrift
Marcy, you were so special to me, I appreciate your kindness and humbleness! You always made me feel like a sister and I will miss our sister to sister talks.
I know what pain feels like and I knew you were in alot of it ever since you fell and broke your hip. I know now you are in no more excruciating pain and you’re not alone anymore. I cherish the weeks that I stayed with you.
I will forever miss our dining out at the Longhorn steak house everytime we came into town, it was funny you could eat enough for the both of us, so I always laughed “She has a high metabolism that girl.”
I Love you and will forever miss you, rest in peace sister!
